Safety is a non-negotiable part of our design process.

Every product is developed with three core principles:

We go beyond minimum requirements—carefully sourcing materials, refining production methods, and testing each product to ensure it is safe for children and designed to last.

A Children’s Product Certificate (CPC) confirms that a product meets all U.S. safety standards for children’s products. It is issued after independent, third-party testing and verifies compliance with regulations such as CPSIA, including limits on lead, phthalates, and other potential hazards.

CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) sets strict safety requirements for children’s products sold in the United States. This includes testing for:

• Lead content and surface coatings
  
• Phthalates (harmful plasticizers)
  
• Mechanical and physical safety (such as choking hazards)
  

All Maison Rue products are tested to meet CPSIA requirements.

Phthalates are chemicals sometimes used to make plastics more flexible, but certain types are restricted in children’s products due to potential health concerns.

We ensure all of our materials—including acrylic components and glitter elements—are completely free from regulated phthalates, so parents can feel confident in what their children are handling.

Heavy metals such as lead can sometimes be found in pigments, coatings, or low-quality materials. Testing ensures that these substances are either not present or well below safe limits.

At Maison Rue, all products are independently tested to ensure they meet strict standards for heavy metals, particularly in paints, finishes, and acrylic components.

Not always. U.S. regulations require testing based on a product’s materials and how it is classified. Smaller batch manufacturers, such as ourselves are not required to undergo every category of testing under CPSIA.

At Maison Rue, we take a more intentional approach. Even when additional testing is not strictly required, we choose to test for substances like phthalates —particularly in materials like acrylic and glitter, where these can be present.

We believe in going beyond minimum requirements, no matter the cost to ensure every product meets the highest standards for safety and peace of mind.

California’s Proposition 65 requires businesses to disclose if products may expose consumers to certain chemicals, often at extremely low thresholds.

While many brands include warnings out of caution, Maison Rue takes a more proactive approach—designing products and selecting materials to avoid the use of listed substances, rather than relying on warnings.

CE certification indicates that a product meets European safety, health, and environmental protection standards. This includes testing under EN71 regulations, which cover mechanical safety, chemical composition, and flammability.

Maison Rue products are tested to meet both U.S. and European safety standards.
